- Hello Doctor, I have been sick all week and I haven't gotten better.
- I believe you are a susceptible host meaning that you attract pathogens. Let me check your health history and, do you wash your hands often?
- No I don't, I have been too sick to even get up.
- Well we need to ensure you are washing your hands frequently and cleaning every surface in your house. I believe you are having a chronic infection. I will prescribe you antibiotics.
- Wow. I really need to start washing my hands and cleaning. What are other ways I can contract a disease?
- Other ways you can get diseases are through blood, food, water, fecal matter, parenteral (skin), airborne, and aerosol.
- And how do I know the disease is contagious?
- You never know. That is why we take extra precautions to stop any spread. Contagious diseases are known as infectious and can be transmitted indirectly (object) and directly (person).
