  • Bravery
  • Remorse
  • Why did I even think about killing him!
  • Decisions
  • Kill him
  • Not kill him
  • Bravery was presented throughout the entire story. General Torres was very brave to go to the barber and get a shave when he knew that the barber was supposed to kill him. The barber could have killed him at anytime considering he was shaving him with a blade around his neck. General Torres also set down his gun at the front of the shop so he had no weapon to fight back with if things did turn ugly.
  • Conscience
  • Remorse was shown near the end and at the end of the story. The barber started feeling remorse towards General Torres for having thoughts about killing him. He didn't want to kill him and felt bad for just thinking about it. At the end of the story when General Torres was leaving the shop he had told the barber that it was hard to kill and that he should trust him on that. General Torres was feeling remorseful for killing so many rebels.
  • Theme
  • I'm not going to do it.
  • The barber had to make one very big decision that he was thinking about throughout the entire story. The barber had to decide if he was going to kill General Torres or not. After giving it a lot of thought and weighing out the good and bad from both sides of it the barber decided not to kill General Torres. If the barber decided to kill him then the barber would be seen as a murderer and he didn't want that to be the case.
  • Theme
  • Yes, I'm going to kill him later on today.
  • I don't know if I can do this.
  • The barber had a good conscience. Since the barber had a good conscience on his shoulders he decided not to go through with killing General Torres. Even though he would have been seen as a hero to the rebels he didn't want to be known as a murderer. General Torres was an executioner and that was his job and he was a barber so he had no place to kill him.
  • Don't do it!
  • Always trust your conscience.
  • Yay!
  • It's easier to say you're going to do something then actually deciding to do it.
