As Odysseus's beloved crew mate, Elpenor, had died, Odysseus and his other crewmates held a funeral for Elpenor. Elpenor had died from being drunk and had fallen off the roofs of Circe's home. Through this, Elpenor had snapped his neck. The men decided to burn the beloved Elpenor, bury him with a gravestone, and grieve all their pain.
NOOO!! WHY WOULD THIS HAPPEN TO ME!!!!
We are here for you Odysseus!
You didn't deserve this!
After the funeral of Elpenor, Odysseus ends up back at Cicrce's palace. The crew mates and Odysseus end up feasting but then, Circe pulls Odysseus aside. Odyessues ends up telling Circe about the grief he is facing with the death of Elpenor. Circe then tells Odysseus the three things he will have to face on his journey back to Itheca. First of all, the sirens. The sirens were beautiful women singng a beautful song but, if the men went towards it, they would die. The next trial was the clashing rocks that barely anyone could escape! These rocks would come from everywhere and destroy ships. The final trial was of the sacred cattle that was Helios and was never to be eaten. Odysseus was warned by Circe that him and his men would pass by the cattle and warned Odysseus not to let his men eat Helios's cattle or else he would die! Along with these trials, there would also be a big whirlwind monster, Charybdis, that would distract Odysseus and his men as well as a sea monster named Scylla that would kill six of Odysseus's men without a doubt!
Circe's Wise Wisdom and Advice
So basically... you need to keep an eye out for these three things...
Of course, Scylla and Charybdis will come around the corner too!
Watch out for the sirens, the clashing rocks, and DO NOT let your men eat Helios's cattle! They will die! TRUST ME!!
I will try my best! I promise! *sobs for the death of Elpenor*
THESE WOMEN NEED TO GO!
As Odysseus and his crew mates are on their journey back to Ithaca, the men come upon the first trial Circe had warned them about, which was the sirens. The sirens were basically beautiful women that would sing a very attractive song. Men would love to come near to hear the women and this would cause the men to die. When Odysseus and his men come upon the sirens, the crew mates put beeswax in their ears and tie Odysseus to the pull of the boat that they are sailing on. Odysseus wanted to go towards the women because He did not have beeswax in his ears but, his crew mates insisted on not letting him go. Successfully, Odysseus and his crew mates had passed the sirens.
