  • And what is it?
  • Yesterday, when you were absent, the professor explained the Magna Carta.
  • The Magna Carta recognizes the rights of feudal lords, the Church, English cities and free men towards the ruler of England, limiting his powers, in a written manner.
  • On June 15, 1215, the king of England Giovanni Senzaterra, forced by the English barons, recognized freedom and privileges in a document called Magna Carta libertatum.
  • Over time it underwent changes and was again granted in 1225 by Henry III, confirmed in 1297 by Edward I and subsequently became part of the fundamental laws of the English kingdom.
  • Moreover, Magna Carta has inspired many people, such as Gandhi.
  • In his farewell letter said that he referred to the Indian Refiel Act as magna carta on the basis that the law gave the Indian community in South Africa the right to enforcing our reasonable wishes and claiming Passive Resistance as a clean and legal weapon.
  • What an interesting topic! It is nice to know how such an old document has also influenced events that are a little more current.
