  • Lenin was able to overthrow the provisional government because he took advantage of the Provisional government. Kerensky, PG leader, begged the bolsheviks for help to defend Russia from Kornilov and the Bolsheviks helped protect Russia. This helped the Bolsheviks gain support and led to a Bolshevik takeover.
  • Russia then became the soviet union, a communist state, which Lenin ruled until his death in 1924.
  • - Lenin's commitment to his people led to unwavering support from the Russian people that meant they had more influence than the whites, even though the whites were supported by capatalist countries. Lenin's long term work towards proving himself as a leader paid off and he is still considered a great figure in Russia today.
  • Another conflict in which Lenin's leadership allowed the Bolsheviks to prevail was the Russian Civil War in 1917. The Reds (bolsheviks) fought against the whites, a group of anti-Bolshevik people led by Tsarist officers who hoped to disempower the Bolsheviks
  • How did the Reds defeat the Whites- Lenin ensured that he and Trotsky were the leaders of the Reds to ensure they could run a tight command and decision making would be efficient. The Whites on the other hand, had divided leadership with many small armies led by separate generals - proper planning and organisation meant that military attacks and access to resources were planned to facilitate the reds remaining in power
