Storyboard Text

  • The unconditional surrender meant that there were no guarantees of safety or peace between the Allies and the Germans. This was the ultimate downfall of the Blitzkrieg.
  • Germany was forced to surrender unconditionally upon the death of Adolf Hitler. Adolf, the Fuher of the axis powers had committed suicide upon realizing that he was completely surrounded in Berlin.
  • While America and Russia Had been allies in World War 2 against the Nazi's, after the war Russia became a communist party, in which the West had tried to fight. So while they were against the ideas of fascism and Nazi ideology, they also had disputes between communism and capitalism. This lead to what is called the Cold War, a war based around economic, and political fronts between the two superpowers.
  • The Manhattan Project was a code name to cover up the development of a functional nuclear/atomic device during WWII. The studies from this would later be used against the Japanese after the Unconditional surrender of Germany on May 7th, 1945. Later these studies would make up the development of Fat man And Little boy.
  • The bombing of Hiroshima was brought on by the hypothetical of an invasion of Japan would mean thousands of American casualties, and thus a new form of warfare should be introduced. And so with this in mind, on August 6, 1945, a US Bomber called the Enola gay, dropping an atomic bomb that brought the city of Hiroshima to a flaming wasteland, and ending 80,000 lives immediately. The name for this devastating weapon? Little Boy.
  • Due to the size of japan America had thought that just one bomb would not be enough. And as a result a second bomb would be made. this time it was given the name, Fat man. Fat man was not nearly as big as Little Boy, and was really developed to simply finish off the Japanese land. o ensure there would be little resistance. Nagasaki was not the intended target for Fat man however it's effects were still devastating.
  • The use of Nuclear weapons in WWII absolutely shocked Japan, however it wasn't the nuclear weapons, it was the fact that The soviet union had joined the war. They decided that they would surrender to an army rather than suffer the humiliation of admitting defeat to what was a wonder weapon.
