This scene occurs in Lyddie's house in Vermont. A bear enters their home, and wanders around. Lyddie, Charlie, Mama and the babies climb up to the loft to avoid getting hurt by the bear. The creature walks around to find a bowl of hot, steaming porridge and stuffs it in its mouth. Later, the bowl ends up on the bear's head, and it leaves the Worthen's house.
This scene occurs in Cutler's Tavern. Lyddie had just returned from visiting her home without permission. The mistress is not happy wither her, and decides to fire her.
The scene occurs in Lyddie's home in Vermont. She goes to visit it and finds a suck, runaway slave seeking for shelter in her cabin. Lyddie remembers hearing if anyone catches a slave, they could earn a lot of money. She resists herself from turning him in.
