- Countries such as the Netherlands and Britain fought to get Africa. They all wanted Africa since it had rich natural resources like diamonds and gold.

- As if! We need your raw materials, we're not going anywhere!
- India was considered the "jewel in the crown" for Britain. This was considered this because of the raw materials it provided for Britain's factories and also their productions.

- Well, then I insist on control over you and your canal!
- Countries like France and Britain wanted Egypt for its strategic location on the Red Sea. The Egyptians tried to modernize Egypt they did this by forming a more modern military and planted cash crop to start selling.

- Your Majesty! You must stop selling concessions, the plan isn't working.
- The rulers of Persia sold concessions to the Europeans in hopes to increase their wealth,But didn't work so this allowed Russia and Britain to take over Persia and split it among their spheres of influence.

- When Europeans offered their new inventions to the Chinese, they didn't like them. In order to get the Chinese to start trading with them, the British decided to use opium, starting the Opium War, which the British eventually won.
