- Hello Grandpa i was looking through some stuff and found this book! What is this and who is the person in the book
- This is Mao Zedong, he was the leader of the Chines Communist Party. He initiated many plans to make china more modernised.
- Let me more Grandpa!
- One of his most known Plan was the cultural revolution. He did this so that he could be leader of the communist world by riding the country of capitalism and its traditions.
- So, what else happened during the cultural revolution!
- In 1958 Mao launched a national campaign The Great Leap Forward. The Great Leap Forward radically distributed land among Chines rural population and organised workers into communes. But the campaign failed, decimating the economy and diminishing Mao's role within the ruling party.

- To regain control Mao launched a campaign called the Cultural Revolution. In a meting in 1966, Mao claimed that bourgeois Ideas has come into the society and they needed to use violence to destroy these radicals. In the months that followed Mao shut down schools and mobilised them to paramilitary unites, called red guards.
- What was the main purpose of the red guards.
- The Red Guards attacked and killed teachers and any ordinary people they suspected of undermining the communist system. By the late 1960's thousands ad been forced out of the city in an effort to purify urban area and millions suffered abuse and torture. Some villages in China even practised ritual cannibalism. The people part of the revolution also suffered famine. Finally the Revolution ended in1976.
- That, was pretty bad from Mao's Part. He was a bad leader and should have taken better cake of his country. Anyways, grandpa we are getting late for lunch!
