Hi, I am Mr. Apple. I will show you how the digestive system works. When the food enters the mouth, the salivary glands produce saliva which softens the food, the teeth chew the food and break it into smaller pieces and the tongue pushes the food down the throat. Now, the food is called bolus.

The bolus travels through a long tube called the oesophagus. A muscularmotion called peristalsis pushes it through and into the stomach. Glands in the stomach release different enzymes, digestive juices and hydro - chloric acid which help to futher break down the food. The food now turns into a thin paste called chyme. The liver makes bile and stores it in the gallbladder and the pancreas makes pancreatic juice.

The chyme enters the duodenum which is the first part of the small intestine. Here, the gallbladder and pancreas release their juices. Then, the food enters the jejunum/ileum of the intestine. This is where most of digestion takes place. Small finger like things called villi absorb thenutrients from the food in the small intestine. Then, the undigested food enters the large intestine. Herewater is absorbed. The undigested food is stored in the rectum and isfinally removed from your body through the anus.
