  • Black people were afraid to vote because they would get harrased by white people and would get fired from jobs and evicted from apartments if the people saw that they were voting
  • The SCLC left a mass meeting for a nighttime march when cops and a local mob attacked the crowd and news reporters saying 27 year old Jimmie Lee Jackson was shot trying to protect his mother
  • At the funeral of Jimmie Lee Jackson, Dr. King spoke and said that his death was an example of racism and that this government allows segregation and wouldn't protect their own citizens lives to vote which brings them together to end the struggle.
  • After Bloody Sunday, Dr. King asked for a national appeal asking people from around the country to come to them for a march. It was a success because thousands of people joined black and white for it.
  • Because of all the murders, it brought momentum to the civil rights people because it showed they are non violent which helped to bring the change faster for safer voting rights.
  • As the result of the Selma Demonstrations, the president passed a law for voting rights which Congress passed a few months later and because of this over 9000 black Americans registered to vote and Sheriff Jim Clark went out of office.
