Violence doesn't solve problems is the theme of the story “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street”. I'm gonna give three reasons why this is the theme. The first reason is that Les Goodman's car set off everyone to think he was an alien. They thought he was an alien because no one in the whole neighborhood could start except him. Also, he was the only one that didn't come out when the UFO made a loud noise which was fishy plus his family was always the oddballs. The second reason why violence doesnt solve problems is because the neighborhood were talking bad about them. After the incident with the car, Mrs.Goodman came out to support her husband Les Goodman but the rest of the neighborhood was just talking about them and bad things about them. The third and final reason is that they all got in a huge fight and tried to attack charlie. The reason for this is that Charlie shot Pete van Horn quickly and they thought he was the alien because he didn't hesitate at all he just shot quick. Then they got in a huge brawl and the result of that was all of them dying. To conclude thats why the theme is “violence doesn't solve problems”.
