- We need money!
- France wanted the US to help their revolution but they had no supplies, soldiers, or money. George Washington declared neutrality and France started attacking US ships.
- Barbary Pirates
- The US wanted Britain to stop attacking US ships but they didn't stop. John Jay went to sign a treaty then Britain stopped attacking but France started.
- Embargo Act
- The US wanted France to stop attacking ships, but they wouldn't leave the US alone. John Adams sent 3 envoys to France but secret agents asked for money and the US said no money and declared war.
- War of 1812
- The US wanted pirates to stop attacking ships and for US to pay no more tribute, but Tripoli declared war. So Jefferson bombarded Tripoli then the US and Tripoli made a peace treaty
- Jefferson wanted Great Britain and France to stop attacking US ships but they wouldn't stop. Jefferson passed the Embargo Act stopping trade to and from US ports. Then they started attacking ships again.
- The US wanted Britain to stop attacking US ships but only Napoleon needed the treaty. US declared war and US won.
