- Opportunities Gone West
- My mother said we needed to move west because of how our town had gotten so crowded that we couldn't even reach the market! It is our destiny to move west so that we can make a new life, and have the opportunities promised in the west, as well as the possibility of finding gold in California!
- Though the journey is hard we will make it through!
- I could finally own my own land, and make a life for my children that is comfortable.
- I hate this town!
- Crowding in Eastern Cities
- Now now, stop your crying little one.
- This place is so crowded!
- Dear, I know this is hard but we have to leave.
- Mama I don't wanna leave!
- Tragedy Strikes On The Trail

- Later that evening we found out that Mary had died of Cholera. One of the many deadly illnesses that awaited everyone that was on the trail.
- Dreaming of the Golden Land
- The possibility of gold in California is very exciting! Who knows how much this is worth?! This gold could help my mother and I make a great living in the west!
- While I was asleep dreaming of the golden land, mother shook me awake and pointed to some figures in the distance!

- I was so scared that I jumped off of the wagon and ran off, dragging my daughter behind me.

- I wish others would have shown as much kindness as you. Instead of forcing us off our land.
- During this long journey we lost almost everything, trying to cross the river. We can't thank you enough for your kindness. I am also so sorry for acting so frightened!

- God is with us, he will make us strong. Remember it's our destiny.
