  • It’s called marine pollution. I’m sure you’ve heard of this before and probably because it is a very important subject and I’m here to tell you why and how to help prevent this issue from continuing to happen.
  • Hello! My name is Nina!
  • And today I’m going to talk about a huge global issue that’s negatively impacting our environment and world!
  • It’s called marine pollution. I’m sure you’ve heard of this before and probably because it is a very important subject and I’m here to tell you why and how to help prevent this issue from continuing to happen.
  • Marine pollution is a collaboration of chemicals and trash, which mostly comes from land sources. All of that waste ends up in the ocean by either being blown or washed into it, as you can see.
  • Also plastic waste is especially problematic as a pollutant because it’s so long-lasting and can take a million years to decompose!!
  • Hey Daisy! What are you doing?
  • Oh, hi Nina!
  • Oh no Delphine! Let me help you!
  • Oh just helping the sea animals get untangled with the plastic and other trash that ends up here and making sure they’re now eating it. Like always!
  • Fish become tangled and injured in the debris, but thankfully Delphine didn’t get injured. Also some animals mistake items like plastic bags for food and eat them.
  • I was just talking about that. I’m sorry for what’s happening to those poor sea animals. Which reminds me that some of the causes of these debris are from littering, storm winds, and poor waste management.
  • If you’re wondering, ‘ok, but how does this affect humans?’, I’ll tell you.
  • It's getting pretty late. I should be going back home. Bye Daisy!
  • Bye!
  • When small organisms consume microplastics, which are small bits of broken-down plastic, are eaten by larger animals, the toxic chemicals then become part of their tissues. So then, the microplastic pollution moves up the food chain, eventually becoming part of the food humans consume.
