John who recently graduated from a Western university, has just started doing his internship in Google. With a big heart and a desire to succeed, John accepted the tasks assigned by his manager. Therefore, he wants to complete the task quickly and get recognition from his manager to prove himself. However, because it is an international company, during his work he encountered various problems in communication with his manager and coworkers.

I can't believe this!
John's manager gave him some paperwork and tasks to do that needed to be hand-in the next day. John immediately agreed since he is still an intern. Later on, John was having a hard time understanding his manager's instructions and information that he didn't do the tasks validly. The next day, he submitted the paperwork to his manager which was not accurate.

John got into an argument with his co-workers because they communicate differently due to their cultural backgrounds. John grew up in a Western country, so he tends to express his opinions directly. When John doesn't like something, he says it directly. But he might not realize that this can upset people from other cultures, like in Asia, where they prefer a more indirect approach to communication.

John begins to realize that his manager tends to focus more on his mistakes than on his achievements. Despite John’s earnest efforts and dedication, the manager’s biased evaluation starts affecting John’s confidence and impeding his growth within the company.

John consistently comes up with great ideas for the team, but his manager always criticizes his suggestions as too risky or unconventional while praising similar ideas from others. Despite John's success, his manager's biased feedback makes him feel undervalued and doubtful of his abilities. This makes him hesitant to share his ideas and affects his confidence and career growth.

After a few months, John had left the company due to the communication barriers he had faced with his manager and fellow colleague . Hence the power of communication in the realm of business management is crucial therefore in an organization, it’s important to promote open communication to prevent misunderstandings, and encourage collaboration, ultimately avoiding communication barriers in management.
