  • 1. So. Can slaves count towards South Carolina's population?
  • 2. Why? So you can increase your population to your benefit? No. We haven't before, we won't now.

  • No, no, it is because, as a new found independent country, we must forge our own laws, and what was once and still is considered property, must now become man for our personal benefit. The benefit being our representation in Congress. God bless America.

  • Plenty of arguments and back and forth compromise on how much slaves should count towards population.
  • Only 3/5?!?! Fine.
  • Fine. Every 3 slaves count as 5 people for population.
  • The idea of counting slaves towards the population count is introduced, and promptly refused out of fear that South Carolina would gain too much power because of their large slave count.
  • Our South Carolinian representative explains why slaves should count towards population.
  • After plenty of talking, they manage to come to a compromise for everyone that every 3 slaves counts as 5 people in the population. This is titled the 3/5 Compromise, which increases South Carolina's representation in Congress greatly.
