- KA-BOOM!
- How is it groceries? Those cans have fruit/vegetables that Ember ran out of years ago!
- Oh, It's just groceries. Don't worry!
- Lizzie, where did you get those cans?
- Solving The Mystery!

- It means ‘the way out.’ It means ‘theexit.’ The title of this document is‘Instructions for Egress!
- No, I don't know what Egress means.
- A Room Full Of Boats!
- So the boats must go on the river to leaveEmber!
- After understanding more of the instructions, I have realized something! There is no tunnel leading out of Ember.The way out is the river!
- The scene is in chapter 11. Lizzie is crossing the street with Lina and Mahra, but she had tripped and cans of food spilled out of her bag. Lina wanted to know where Lizzie got those cans of food so she had asked Lizzie. Lizzie says they are "groceries", however, Lina and Mahra don't believe her. This is because there are cans of food that Ember had run out of years ago: pineapple, peaches, creamed corn etc.
- The Beginning Of A New Chapter!
- The scene is in chapter 13. This is when Clary points out something very important: the fragment "Egres" in the title, which Lina had assumed to be a name, is actually the cut-off word "Egress." Then, they realized, the document is titled “Instructions for Egress.” As in, a way to exit Ember.
- A Whole New World!
- The scene is in chapter 14. This is when Doon and Lina interpret more of the instructions while they were in the pipeworks. Doon and Lina then realize that the boats are something they’re supposed to use to travel. Then, they realized they can use the boat on the river. So that can only mean one thing! The river is the way out of Ember!
- The Message To Rescue The Refugees!
- I hope someone finds this message and shares it with all citizens of Ember. I want everyone to join us.
- The scene is in chapter 17 when Doon, Lina and Poppy try to leave Ember. As soon as Doon and Lina loosen the knots in the rope, the boat shoots forward in the water. Then they are ready to leave Ember. Doon wanted to be one of the first ones to reach the new city with Lina. She didn’t really want to go along, but Doon convinced her that they should be the first ones to reach the new city. This is because they discovered the way.
- SPLASH!
- The scene is in chapter 19 when Doon, Lina and Poppy reach the passageway. Lina was expecting to see the city from her dreams. Instead, she saw a wide, open space. The sky is black and studded with lights, there’s also one giant light in the sky.
- CRACKLE!
- Oh wow! There is nothingelse to say. The beauty of these lightsis making my breath stop in my throat.
- “Doon!” cried Lina. More lights! Shepointed at the sky.
- The scene is in chapter 20 when Doon and Lina realize that Ember has been underground this whole time. However, they can still get a message to the people if they drop it down through the crevice. They wrapped the message in Doon’s shirt and put a rock inside. Then they stood in a row at the edge of the crevice, Doon in the middle holding Poppy’s hand and Lina’s. With all of Lina's strength, she threw the message into the darkness, and they watched as it fell down and down.
