Storyboard Text

  • As you can see, these are cells and all organisms are made of cells. For example, me! Cells the cells of all organisms within a similar species are mostly the same, both structurally and chemically. As you can see, the top picture shows that cells come from preexisting cells.
  •  Robert Hooke Robert Hooke is known for creating the term cell. This term was called cell because the little chambers that he saw when he was observing a piece of cork.
  • Zacharias JansenZacharias Jansen came up with the first compound microscope and the first telescope. The microscope became very well known and an item that everyone used.
  • Anton Van LeeuwenhoekWhen Anton heard about the microscope, he wanted to make his own and he used it to discover bacteria. He named the bacteria animalcules because the bacteria looked like animals. He then sent letters to Robert Hooke.
  • Sir Issac NewtonSir Issac Newton was one of the most famous scientists ever. Robert Hooke made a claim that Newton was inspired by Hooke's work and it made Newton mad. They had a bad relationship even after Hooke died. 
  • Matthias Schleiden and Theodore SchwanMatthias Schleiden and Theodore Schwann were 2 German scientist that discovered the cell theory. Matthias looked at every plant and realized that all of them were made up of cells. Theodore studied animal cells and also came to the conclusion that all animals were made from cells. They both worked together to try and create the cell theory.
