Did you know that air pollution can effect not only our health, but also Earth's balance in the atmosphere also called Earth's energy budget.
When gases are emitted into the air the gases trap heat in the atmosphere, this is called the greenhouse effect.
Factories and chemical plants sort of like the one behind me, emit gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.
Even the cars we drive around from place to place release gases in to our air like nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide.
Enough long term exposure to these gases can lead to damage to our respiratory tract and even chronic lung disease.
Even the electricity we use in our homes emits greenhouse gases and other air pollutants.
There are many ways we can do our part with improving our quality of air. Even small changes like riding your bike instead of driving your car everywhere you go, or even carpool. Another way is to conserve energy at home and not leaving unnecessary appliances running.
Volunteering to help in planting new trees is also a good way to help our air quality, since trees and plants produce clean oxygen. To learn more ways you can help go to www3.epa.gov/airquality
