Storyboard Text

  • Odysseus returns to his home disguised in rags. With Telemachus by his side, he watches the suitors use his bow. The men are not strong enough and have trouble stringing the bow. Odysseus volunteers to shoot the bow and win their challenge. The suitors laugh at his proposal but Penelope insists that he have a chance.
  • Sure that he would not be able to win the challenge, the suitors hand over the weapon and watch. Odysseus strings the bow and the men are surprised with his skill. He shoots the arrow and wins the challenge. The suitors are confused because none of them were strong enough to shoot Odysseus' bow.
  • Telemachus and his father then begin to kill the suitors for seeking the hand of Penelope. They kill all of them except for Phemius and Medon. Odysseus then learns that some of his maids have disgraced him and were disloyal. He decides to kill those maids as well.
  • Penelope is unsure if Odysseus is truly her husband and decides to test him. He tells her maid to make up a bed outside for Odysseus, which enrages him. Odysseus knows that no one should be able to move his bed because he had planted an olive tree within it. His knowledge of the olive tree proves to Penelope that it is truly him.
  • Odysseus travels to the home of his friend Laertes, again in his disguise. But he reveals himself and Laertes rejoices at the sight of his friend. Back in Ithaca, the families of the suitors learn of Odysseus' deeds. Seeking revenge, they travel to find Odysseus and arrive at the house.
  • Athena decides to erase the memory of the families. They soon forget about the killing of their sons. Odysseus is now recognized as a king within the island of Ithaca. Peace is now restored.
