Millions of people around the world benefit from Insulin

On Oct 31st 1920,Frederick Banting wrote down his ideas for research on the pancreas.Nobody knew that this idea consisting of 25 wordswould be the beginning of a life saving treatment for millions in the future.

After a long Summer of experimenting, on July 30th 1921, Banting and Best's injection Isletin caused a sharpdrop in blood sugar on one of the dogs. Though it was a step in the right direction, a lot of improvement was still needed.

Collip made improvements as soon as he started and on Jan 11 they were able to give Leonard Thompson (patient) theinjection. Though this trial failed, after Collip workedincredibly hard, another attempt was made 12 days later.

January 23, 1922 marks the day when Leonard Thompson receives a new version of the injection and has his blood sugar level become pretty much normal and symptoms from diabetes go away.

Frederick Banting received theNobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine in 1923 at the age of 32 which made him the first as well as the youngest Canadian to have received one.

Millions of lives were saved from insulin such as fiveyear old TeddyRyder (left). He received hisfirst dose on July 10 1922 and after just one year was able to become healthy and live a long life of 76 total years.

I think I got it but I'll need some help from a physiologist!

We're definitely onto something but we're not quite there yet.

I think adding a bio-chemist to this group will fix that!

Wow I feel a lot better!

Great!

Yay I won!
