In this scene, King Charles is being executed for his crimes against England during the English civil war. King Charles was the king of England during the English civil war. He was executed for crimes against his country. His view on divine right was he absolutely believed in it he thought that God had chosen him to be king.
In this scene we see napoleon standing next to Maximillian Robesperrie watching The French monarch's execution. The Monarchs were executed because they tried to flee at the first sign of a revolution. Robespierre was a french lawyer who lead the committee of public safety who was the government during the reign of terror. After the reign of terror ended Napoleon rose to power a crowned himself Emperor of France, he was emperor of France for 10 years until his defeat at waterloo. He was exiled twice the first time e came back the second he stayed there for good
