  • Assessment as learning is used to enable students to monitor their own progress towards achieving their learning goals, as well as it allows students to reflect on their learning and set individual learning goals. Finally, it offers opportunities to give feedback to peers.Some examples of assessment as learning is peer and self evaluation, co-constructing success criteria and learning goals, and reflection periods.
  • Assessment of learning is used to summarize learning and assign value. Educators use it to communicate information about achievement to students, parents, teachers, and others. Finally, assessment of learning promotes opportunities to inform future instruction.Some examples of assessment of learning are standardized tests (EQAO), unit tests/exams, projects and presentations, rich math tasks, and portfolios.
  • Finally, assessment for learning is used to determine what students already know and can do, and presents chances to monitor students' progress towards achieving the overall expectations. As well, it provides timely and descriptive feedback. Also, it can promote differentiated instruction and respond to student needs while scaffolding learning for their next steps.Some examples of assessment for learning are descriptive feedback, exit tickets, conferencing, review questions, quizzes, reflections/journals, and active observations with anecdotal notes.
