- I'm glad we joined the Summer Reading Club today. I have some nice stories to read.
- Yeah, we can report on three books a week. I'm going to read all of mine and report on them next week.
- "Space Cat snuck into the spaceship and hid behind the supplies. He hunkered down and waited." I like this story. Space Cat is kind of cute and funny.
- I'm all set to tell the librarian that I read "Space Cat," "Ribsey" and "Encyclopedia Brown."

- Well, he hid then he came out,then he enjoyed walking around on the ship, then, uh, he, uh. . .
- Let's see what you read. How about telling me what Space Cat learned about stowing away on the spaceship.
- What? No! I read them all!
- It sounds like you don't know. You had better go back and read this book. These other books too. I don't have time to listen to reports of children who have not read their books.
- How can she think I didn't read the books! She didn't even give me a chance. I felt so afraid of her that my mind went blank. Now she thinks I'm a dummy. I'm just going to drop out of the reading club. She won't believe me no matter what I tell her.
