- Abigail is motivated to get John proctor to fall in love with her once again and motivated to not get in trouble from dancing in the woods with the other girls

- Parris is motivated to gain more power and money and get the witches out of Salem
- He expects that everyone respects him and folllows him in his word.
- Reverend Parris is a paranoid, power-hungry, yet oddly self-pitying figure.

- He is the minister so people look up to him and his consequences are explained by god which is belived by the town
