- Buck the main character in throughout the book who lives with Judge Miller in Santa Clara Valley. But most of the story is in Klondike, during the gold rush. Buck is taken from his owner and sold.

- Buck fights Spitz to gain control of the pack
- Resolution
- Buck and his new friend left Thornton's camp for a while. But when they returned they not only find the camp destroyed they found Thornton and the other dogs dead. Buck charges at the leader of the yeehats and kills him which makes the rest of them run off in a heartbeat.
- John Thornton died after being ambushed by the Yeehats and Buck remained at his side and remained there for a few days.
- After the death of John Thornton, The wolf pack that invaded the invaded the valley after the Yeehats. Buck fought them off so as long as he could making sure they didn't corner him but they pushed him down and he was cornered. Them one of them came up to Buck in a friendly manor, Thats when Buck recognized him and then a older wolf approached Buck and snarled then sat down and they howled.
