Gina's story resonated with me because it reminded me of my cousin who has Down syndrome. He is a 13 year old boy who receives immense support. Essentially, the amount of empowerment, strength, and support that his parents provide him, as seen with Gina, is only what I wish to exemplify as a teacher.
Gina's mom advocated for modifications and inclusions in order for her daughter to be in a suitable environment for her only to grow and learn. As an educator, I will do my best to cater to parents' needs and any modification that helps students grow and thrive.
As an educator, there are various ways I can help parents share their voices. First, I will make sure their children are socialized and not left behind. There are various ways to implement peer interactions in order for them to be included. Secondly, I will make sure parents are included and informed of their student's progress through assessments/emails. Thirdly, I can implement a google form or blog where parents can share any thoughts or concerns. Lastly, keeping parents informed and help come up with goals for my students.
