- When Stanley arrived at Camp Green Lake, he met Mr. Sir. Mr. Sir supplied Stanley with two sets of clothes, one for digging and the other for relaxing. He also explained to him what he was required to do.
- My name is Mr. Sir. Each day, you must dig one hole. The hole must be 5 feet deep, and 5 feet wide in all directions. If you dig up anything interesting, you are to report it to me or any other counselor.
- You're not looking for anything; you're digging to build character.
- What are we looking for?
- The one rule we have here at Camp Green Lake is Don’t upset the Warden.

- The next day, Stanley started digging.
- Why do we wake up this early?
- Don't worry, you'll get used to it; after all, the first hole is usually the hardest.
- It's the coolest part of the day.
- Stanley was always the last to finish digging his hole, and every day the pain he felt grew.
- Oww!! This is hard. Every thing hurt.
- Hmm! Why is the Warden so excited about that tube?
