Polyneices and Eteocles fight to the death to see who will become the new king, and they both die doing so. But only one gets a honorable burial .
"Listen, Ismene:Creon buried our brother EteoclesWith military honors, gave him a soldier’s funeral,And it was right that he should; but Polyneices,Who fought as bravely and died as miserably—" (15-18)
Scene 1
Creon didn't want anyone to burry Polyneices, because he believed that he was a traitor, and traitors don't get honorable burials.
"slavery—Polyneices, I say, is to have noburial: no man is to touch him or say the least prayer for him;he shall lie on the plain, unburied; and the birds and thescavenging dogs can do with him whatever they like." (40-42)
Scene 2
Antigone got caught trying to burry her brother Polyneices.
"Creon. But this is Antigone! Why have you brought her here?Sentry. She was burying him, I tell you!Creon (severely). Is this the truth?Sentry. I saw her with my own eyes. Can I say more?" (18-20)
Scene 3
"Then she must die. But her death will cause another." (119)
Creon sentence Antigone to death for dis respecting his orders and laws he has set in place, while Haemon is arguing with Creon about her freedom.
"You’ll never marry her while she lives." (118)
Scene 4
Antigone is accepting her fate (Death)
"Antigone. Then let me go, since all your words are bitter,And the very light of the sun is cold to me.Lead me to my vigil, where I must haveNeither love nor lamentation; no song, but silence." (49-52)
