  • I love learning. I hope I have a nice long life on an inhabitable planet so that I can be a lifelong learner
  • We have to get home soon so that I can get the kids to school and go to work
  • I don't wanna go to school today :(
  • OH NO :(
  • BREAKING NEWS: WE'RE IN DANGER
  • The legislative process is mad complicated. I have to balance so many interests and it's hard to know what my constituents actually want
  • dang, that sucks
  • Carol works as an administrative assistant at a local nonprofit. In both her work and home life, she feels a lack of personal efficacy and impact. She works very hard, which doesn’t leave her time to do much outside of work and taking care of her twins. She reads the newspaper every morning and listens to news radio on her commute every day. She is aware of climate issues and fears for the future her kids will grow to inhabit, but she feels powerless to do anything about that anxiety. Nothing climate related is a major enough issue to demand her focus just yet.
  • Wow, what a comprehensive platform!
  • As she listens to the news one morning, Carol hears a news report about a young mother contemplating fleeing her coastal home in favor of a “safer” midwest life away from the major climate crises occurring in California. Exacerbated by the global refugee crises happening yearly, Carol spends rest of the day envisioning herself as a climate refugee, fleeing Boston with her twins and upending their lives. This shakes her, and her anxiety around this issue hits a fever pitch. She decides to try and channel this anxiety into something productive.
  • I really hope this bill passes!
  • Carol reaches out to a climate activist and GOVERNMENT GUS, and they provide a challenging, yet action-oriented, view of the situation.Carol trusts the two experts she’s reached out to. The problem is now cemented beyond just a thought or a fear — it’s a reality. Carol is tenacious and has found a channel for her anxiety as both a citizen and a parent.
  • Hey everyone, I found this cool thing!!
  • From her conversations with the activist and Government Gus, Carol now has a platform for bringing this huge issue down to earth. She signs on and is able to browse bills in committee and those coming to a vote in the near future. Carol feels increased agency in the face of climate change. She begins reading through a specific bill and answering questions about her support. She is excited  that other people are thinking about this issue and proposing solutions, and that she can support them rather than upending her entire life to become a climate activist.
  • Carol begins using the service in tandem with her news radio during her commute. It provides her a little mood boost in her mornings. Gradually, however, she feels her anxiety return. Is this enough? Is it really working? She wonders if there is more that she could do, but she knows she doesn’t have the time or energy to devote to totally curing this issue, nor would that be possible if she did.
  • Carol shares the platform with others. She gets her friends at work to use the platform to voice their opinion and become more educated on current issues. Some follow through, some do not. But those who do begin to form a conversation group in the break room. Climate and legislative topics become a normal part of their daily interactions, and they now have more to discuss than how annoying Margaret from IT is. By broadening her circle, Carol has also broadened the effectiveness of her engagement. She and her friends all become more civically engaged.
