I'm afraid to stray to far from the house, certain sounds frighten me and my beloved sister Madeline, is wasting away.
The Fall Of The House Of Usher
Do you think the rocks that build this house are alive? I think they are, unlike my dear Madeline, who is no more.
We were twins...
That morning my childhood friend sent me a letter saying that he needed my company. I quickly got my horse ready, as I neared the Usher mansion I noticed large cracks displayed on the sides of the manor. A servant led me in. Sitting on a large table was my best and only friend Roderick Usher. His apperance had changed greatly from when I had seen him last, his eyes where oddly enlarged and watery , his lips where pale and tacky and his face was hollow and frail, you could see every bone of his body. I asked him to describe the symptoms of the illness. Behind him moving like a ghost was his sister Madeline. 'That will probably the last time we see her' Roderick commented with a dreary tone.
Rattle, rattle, scaarpe, SCAAARPE, GRRRR
DID WE PUT HER IN THEIR ALIVE... I KNOW YOU HEAR IT!
She's going to come.. I need to hide
After staying a few days I noticed a change in my friend. He started acting like his old self. We read books together, drew pictures and I listened to him play melancholy music. I thought that we would be able to work through this terrible illness but I was wrong, everything was about to get much worse. One day Roderick asked if I thought the walls where alive. As I fumbled for a answer he told me that his gorgeous Madeline would not rise to see another day.
That evening we laid her rotting body in a small casket. We carried the coffin to a area I had not yet explored. It looked as though it had been a ancient dungeon where the Usher family placed their foes. We rested her coffin down on the cold hard ground. As we began nailing the lid of the coffin I realized how much Madeline resembled her brother. As though Roderick read my mind he replied saying the they where twins. As Roderick began sobbing I realized with a uneasy feeling that this dark glooming dungeon rested right below my room.
A few days after the dreadfull news of Madeline I noticed Roderick's illness was growing worse. The following night it seemed the whole property was anticipating the fall of the house of Usher. Wind was roaring harder then I ever heard. A frail shadow began climbing up the stairs to my bedroom. I jumped. I let out a sigh of relief as I saw it was only Roderick. He stepped into my room with a weary expression and bloodshot eyes, I never thought a human being could be so skinny. He started yelling madly like he was trying to compete against the wind and see who could be louder. Underneath us I heard a unsettling rattling sound like the sound of a coffin scraping against stone. Roderick said with fear in his voice ' She's coming! Did we bury her in their alive... I need to hide'.
The window flew open. In came the ghostly form of Madeline. Her dress was a ragged cloth covering her body. Her mouth opened wide exposing pearly white fangs. She suddenly pounced on her brother I barely had time to move out of the way. Roderick fell to the ground dead.
I ran outside as fast as I possibly could. I clambered onto my horse and took off down the path. I turned around to see the once amazing manor crumble to the ground like it never was their.
