  • You're under arrest!
  • I find you guilty of violating the separate car act.
  • Louisiana passes the separate car act that requires blacks and white to sit in a separate car on trains.
  • Plessy buys a white ticket for a train ride but unfortunately Plessy has one black grandparent that causes him to get arrested on the train.Good thing for him, help planned to get arrested and goes to court to try and prove the separate car act unconstitutional.
  • The act dose not violate the constitution and segregation must be separate but equal.
  • Plessy takes to the Louisiana state court first but the judge John Ferguson finds Plessy guilty and declared the separate car act constitutional.
  • I just finished publishing the Jim Crow Laws.
  • After the failed attempt at the state trial Plessy takes the issue to the Supreme Court of Louisiana, but the Supreme Court there agreed that the law was constitutional so Plessy takes his case to the Supreme Court of the United States.
  • Plessy goes to the Supreme Court to try his case, but unfortunately for Plessy the court rules against Homer Plessy in a 7-1 decision and agrees with the doctrine "separate but equal". The Supreme Court said the 14th amendment only guaranteed the legal equality of blacks but not the social equality of blacks.
  • "Separate but equal" doctrine was widely used and quickly spread throughout the South and black and white people were segregated in every aspect of their social life and set the precedent for the Jim Crow Laws.
