- It was hard for Lyddie to give the calf money because it was the hope for her family but she gave it to Ezekial anyway. She had to make a big decision which shows character vs self.
- In this scene, Lyddie left without telling Mistress Cutler and when she came back Mistress Cutler got mad and dismissed her. This is character vs character because Mistress Cutler got mad at Lyddie and Lyddie left.
- In this scene, their mom got jobs for them without asking them and they have to go and pay off the family debt. This is Character vs society because Lyddie is being forced to go and work to get money.
