Once upon a time, there was a goddess named Persephone. She was the daughter of Demeter. Demeter was the goddess of harvest, and Persephone was the goddess of Spring!
One day, a God named Hades saw Persephone in his dream and thought she was the most beautiful woman ever! He asked his brother Zeus if he could invite her over to his house, and Zeus said yes!
Suddenly, Demeter and Persephone saw a person coming out from the ground! They were so surprised and didn't know that Hades was going to invite Persephone to his home!
When Persephone left to Hades' house without telling anyone, Demeter was SO SAD because she couldn't find her daughter anywhere. She was so upset that her sadness made the land that used to be green and happy into a grey and dry world.
Because she missed her daughter so much, Demeter ran to Zeus to see if he knew where Persephone was. When he told her that she ran away to play with Hades, Demeter was so angry and sad! "Please bring Persephone back to me!" she pleaded.
Zeus started to feel bad for Demeter, so he sent a God named Hermes to Hades' house and said that Zeus needed Persephone to go back to her own house! Hades was sad she had to leave because he liked her very much, but he had to listen to what Zeus wanted him to do.
Soon after, a gardener appeared in Hades' backyard! He gave Persephone a fruit called a pomegranate to eat. She was hungry, so she decided to eat six seeds of the pomegranate!
After Persephone ate the pomegranate seeds, she saw Hermes again! "You must return back to your house. Your mother misses you!" he implied.
