Throughout Gina's education, Gina's parents advocated for her to be in programs that would provide her with support in socialization, peer interaction and communication.
As Gina grew older, her mother was concerned with the opportunities she would have after graduating. Gina became an active participant in her community and attended a variety of community-based programs.
As a teacher, I will help parents share their voice by advocating for their children regardless of their abilities. If a child has a disability, I will provide them with extra support so that they can be successful in their academics and other life skills. I will never give up on any child and I will always be open to communicating with the families about their concerns and thoughts regarding their children. Disabilities do not define anyone and all children should be given a chance to have a bright future!
Gina's story shows how children with disabilities are not a burden to their family or society and should be able to participate in all that life has to offer.
