Did you wonder who contributed to the cell theory?
Today we will show you who contributed to the theory.
This is Robert Hooke. He discovered cells. He looked at the microscope and saw multiple chambers in the cork and called them cells.
This is Robert Brown. He discovered the nucleus by studying the process of fertilisation of plants, and he observed an opaque area which he called the nucleus.
This is Matthias Schleiden. He concluded that all plant tissues are composed of cells and that an embryonic plant arose from a single cell. He declared that the cell was the basic building block of all plants.
This is Theodor Schwann, and he compiled existing observations into a theory. He discovered that cells are organisms and that all organisms consist of one or more cells, and that it is also the basic unit of structure of all organisms. And also he discovered that animals are made up of cells.
And lastly we have Rudolf Virchow. He was able to add a third part of the cell theory. He stated that all cells can only develop from existing cells.
