- Gregory is walking home from work, frustrated. His career seems stagnate, in college he feels he didn't gain the skills necessary to stand out in his field. His son is preparing to go to school and he doesn't want him to make the same mistake.
- Greg explains to his son Jimmy that he needs to ensure he get the classes and skills that will make him better than the rest when it comes to the job he hopes to get. He tells him not to take easy classes that wont help him in the future, that he'd be wasting his time and money doing so.
- Jimmy expresses his father's concerns to his advisor as he prepares for his upcoming college year. She tells him there is no need to worry, because the new core program is tailored to each student and their needs, and makes it very easy for students to explore and gain whatever skills they need
- His advisor points him towards the UK interactive Core website, where he can find detailed videos and information on what each core class contains, as well as how much the university gauges it's worth or value towards the desired major. The core requirements have been redesigned to create a broad knowledge and skill set for students while being more focused around the type of work being done in each students respective career path. Now Jimmy feels confident that the core classes he's selected will be interesting and help him in the future.
- Jimmy could see the correlation within each of his core classes and what he considered to be his future job. He understood the real world application and felt his skill set growing in class.
- While Jimmy appreciated this specialized core, initially for it's real world practicality and preparation for his major, pretty soon he appreciated it for another reason. Due to the specialized core system, he realized very quickly that this major was not for him, as=nd he definitely needed a change
- Jimmy quickly scheduled an appointment with his advisor where he proclaimed his distress. But she calmed him and told him not to worry, he could switch into a different filed with a click of a button, and continue to explore his options through the interactive website until he found an environment that suited him.
- Now Jimmy has finally graduated, despite the early scare he was able to respond quickly enough as to not waste time and money at college pursuing something he didn't want. Now he feels he has a valuable skill set and is ready to take on the world
