- What do you think about Mauna Kea?
- I think its so cool how it is being for the advancement of astronomy!
- Ohh really? Well what about its significance to Native Hawaiians?
- Significance? I didn't know about any of that.
- Yes. Its regarded as theme to many Hawaiian digestives like the Supreme Being and Akua. We also used it as urial ground and it represents our ancestors
- Oh wow. That's really interesting. But I thought it was determined there was no undue burden.
- Yes ut that definition is outdated. We may not be getting punished for practicing our religion or coerced into not practicing, but our religion is still being damaged by the astronomy tower.
- That is true. So how would you change the definition of undue burden?
- I would add a clause that accounts for sacred land. If some land is sacred to a certain religion, it should not be damaged or built on if it infringes on the religious practices of a group.
- But wouldn't that violate the establishment clause by favoring Native religions?
- No because protecting someones religious freedoms does not necessarily mean that their religion is being favored.
- I never thought about it like that. I guess you're right.
