Storyboard Text

  • After taking a break after her 5th Studio Album Tour for her album 1989 to work on herself and her mental health, Swift came back with her sixth album "Reputation" which addresses "some of the narratives" that surrounded her with songs such as "I Did Something Bad" and "Look What You Made Me Do".
  • 'Be careful bro, she'll write a song about you. Don't stand near her.' First of all, that's not how it works. Second of all, find me a time when they say that about a male artist: 'Be careful, girl, he'll use his experience with you to get- God forbid- inspiration to make art." (Vogue 2019)
  • When asked about writing about the narratives that surrounded her, Swift pointed out the sexism in the music industry by saying "People would act like it [songwriting] was a weapon I was using. Like a cheap, dirty trick...
  • Not only did Swift face harassment about the narratives surrounding her, she also faced sexual harassment. In 2013, she was groped by David Mueller, a radio show employee, at a meet and greet.
  • Mueller initially sued Swift in 2015 for defamation, claiming that he never touched Swift. Swift counter-sued one month later, claiming she has evidence that he did and clearly remembers that he was the one that groped her. She also spoke that any money made from the trial were to be donated to charities that support the women affected by sexual assaults and harassments.
  • In 2017, the Mueller v. Swift trial started. A jury of 6 women and 2 men were chosen who had no bias against either personnel. Swift's attorney described Swift as "taking a stand for all women" and described the incident as an assault in the workplace. After weeks of trials, the court ruled in favor of Swift, dismissing Mueller's request for $3 Million for defamation and awarding Swift with the $1 she requested.
  • Although Swift won the court case, her fight with discrimination in the music industry was far from over. In 2019, Swift released the first album she owned, titled "Lover", which had tracks such as "The Man" where Swift pointed out the sexism in the music industry and "You Need To Calm Down" which highlighted LGBTQIA+ and Female empowerment.
