  • However, to get the central number, use the formula (N^2 +1)/2. In 3x3, (3^2+1)/2 is 10/2 or 5. that is why in 3x3 magic square, 5 is the central number
  • The formula to get the constant sum or the sum of columns, rows, and diagonals re illustrated by (N^3+N)/2. Where N is the number of row, column, and diagonal. From the example 3x3 the N is 3.
  • Cool right? It is really fun and beautiful to learn mathematics and there are many things to discover from here. Now that you know, I will give you a challenge.
  • It's just like a simple quiz to test your knowledge about magic squares. Are you ready?
  • Yes, I am ready!
  • Ahhh. Now I know the technique to find the sum and the central number of magic squares.
  • A challenge? What kind of challenge?
  • In a 5x5 magic square, what is the constant sum of rows, columns and diagonals?
  • Very good! You are really interested in this topic huh?
  • The sum of the rows, columns and diagonals is 65!
  • Hmmm. (5^3+5)/2 is 130/2. That is 65!
  • What about its central number?
  • Incredible!
  • The central number is 13!
  • Hmmmmm. (5^2+1)/2 is 26/2. Therefore, it is 13!
  • Now for your final challenge, can you complete the 5x5 magic square?
  •
  • Yes. I will never forget this experience. Thank you for showing me the some magic in mathematics. I have learned a lot!
  • Bye!
  • Then, we will see each other again! Happy learning! Goodbye!
  • Very well! Did you enjoy the challenge?
