Same Sex Marriage

Did you know that two people of the same sex were not LEGALLY allowed to get married in the US until June 26, 2015? Gay Marriage, or more commonly known as Same sex marriage is something the LGBT+ community has been fighting for for hundreds of years.

Our country is fortunate, as there are other countries where same sex relationships are illegal and punishable by death. This is something that the people of this world can work together to create change.

Massachusetts became the first state to legalize same sex marriage on May 17, 2004.


Connecticut was the next state to legalize same sex marriage four years later on November 12, 2008.


On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is a right guaranteed by the Constitution, thus making same-sex marriage legal in the 13 states that have not legalized same-sex marriage up to that point.


It took a total of 10 years to legalize same sex marriage in the United States through speeches, protests, pride events, and more.
