  • In his story Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that humans are very easily controlled by the Governmentand media. He establishes this when George and Hazel's own son is murdered by an official right on TV and they are mentally incapable of remembering or standing up for what's right, like their son was doing. Things like media can become mind numbing and cause one to not think for themselves. This shows that humanity is becoming more and more disengaged with what is happening around them. Vonnegut uses this to ridicule humanitybecausewe are becoming mindless robots, who don'tknow from one day to the next what we ate for breakfast or what is happeningright in front of us. We are controlled by the weight of our idols and unwilling to recognize it.
