Mier y Terán Report

Law of April 6 1830

  • March 1825
  • Mexican legislature passes law providing incentives for Anglo colonists.
  • This law made it easier for many new immigrants to come who were not fully assimilated to current culture.

  • 1827
  • As the population in Texas grew the Mexican government became nervous. They sent this general to invest the situation.
  • The report warned that unless the Mexican government did something the new settlers would rebel. The report said that the settlers refused to learn Spanish and would mainly do trade with the United States, not Mexico.

  • April 6 1830
  • As a result of the Mier y Terán report, the Mexican government issued a new law saying no more American settlers could settle in Mexican territory. Law also outlawed slavery in Texas.
  • The band did not stop new American settlers from coming to Texas, so Mexico feared loosing Texas.

Come and get land cheap!

Do something fast or the settlers will rebel!

No more American settlers!
