Sara receives a letter from her father about how his old friend is the owner of diamond mines and that if all goes well her father would become very rich. Many of the school children were interested and wowed by this possibility. Lavinia and Jessie who dislike Sara, don't think its true.
Lottie fell over and hurt her knee. Then Lavinia yelled at her to stop and called her a name - which Lottie did not like. Sara put down her book and came over to comfort her.

Lavinia yelled at Sara and bullied her about the diamond mines and her make belief princess game. Sara keeps her cool and speaks to Lavinia in such a way that Lavinia has no response.
Every afternoon after the scullery maid Becky finishes the rooms, she comes into Sara's room where Sara talks to her, gives her something to eat, and tells her stories. Sara doesn't know it, but these visits are the highlight to Becky's day that make her work seem less unbearable.
