- Jonas doesn't wish to return to the annex and wishes he had a normal life and job
- I wish I had a normal life just like them
- The Giver who is filled with guilt offers to transmit to Jonas his favorite memory, a beautiful Christmas evening filled with love.
- Jonas, what did you see?
- The Giver asks Jonas what he saw, then goes on to explain the concept of love
- I saw a happy family gathered together! There was a feeling in the air, I don't quite know what its called....
- At home, Jonas hesitantly asks his parents if they love him after the giver told him about love
- Do you guys love me?
- Nonsense. We don't have love in the community
- Jonas! We do not use that absurd word here!

- At night, Jonas whispers to Gabriel, about colours and memories and love and family, telling him that things could be different.
- There are colors! Like red, blue and green. There Christmas mornings, love, and grandparents!
- At the end of Chapter 16, Jonas tosses his pills in the trash, hoping he will be able to feel love BY: RITU
