Simon loses consciousness after having a bloody nose. However, the flies stay with the pig instead of going towards Simon. He lays against the creepers, with the Lord of the Flies in his view.
I need to tell the others...
Simon awakes and begins to slowly walk. His legs and tongue are hurting. He finds himself going towards a mountain on the backbone of the island.
"Bathing, that's the only thing to do."(1)"Going to rain again"(2)"All right, all right. Keep your hair on"(3)"I wish the rain would come."(4)
"I don't like them clouds. Remember how it rained just after we landed"(1)"Mind my specs, if I get water on the glass I got to get out and clean 'em'."(2)"Stop it! D'you hear?"(3)"I got a pain in my head, I wish the air was cooler."(4)"I wish we could go home"(5)
Simon stumbles across a figure on the top of the mountain. It is a dead parachuter, most likely a soldier from the war. The body was stuck, and the wind in the parachute caused it to move. The boys had thought that this dead man was the beast.
"Where's everybody?"(1)"Where's Samneric? And Bill?"(2)"Let them go, I don't care."(3)"And for hunting, and for pretending to be a tribe, and putting on war-paint."(4)
"P'raps they're lying in the shelter."(1)"That's where they've gone. Jack's party."(2) "Just for some meat-" (3)"P'raps we ought to go too. I mean - to make sure nothing happens."(4)
Simon frees the figure from its restraints, feeling sad that the boys thought the beast could be something so harmless. He decides he needs to tell the boys that the figure was no beast, and starts to see the smoke coming from camp, where the boys were. However, his legs were starting to give out, and he started to stumble his way to the camp.
Ralph and Piggy go into the pool together, and Ralph starts a small water fight. They both want the rain to come and for the air to become cool.
Ralph asks Piggy where Bill and Samneric are. Piggy tells him that they went to Jack's tribe. This annoys Ralph, but they decide to give Jack a visit later.
