Storyboard Text

  • The setting is in India during the 19th century time period. The major and minor characters introduced were Rikki-tikki-tavi, Teddy, Teddy's Mom and Dad, Chuchundra, and Darzee. Rikki was swept away from his burrow by a flood and was rescued by Teddy which his family later adopts.
  • Exposition
  • The conflict is that the snakes (Nag & Nagaina) constantly attempt to eat the fledglings in the garden. Kipling's short story is an external conflict. Rikki Tikki is a mongoose, and a mongoose's mortal enemy is the cobra snake. Throughout the story, Rikki feels that it is his duty to protect his human family from invading snakes.
  • "Well," marks or no marks, do you think it is right for you to eat fledglings out of a nest?"
  • Conflict
  • Nag and Nagaina had a plan to harm the family. Nag went threw the drains in the bathroom to kill. Rikki attacks Nag from behind in the bathroom. The ensuing struggle awakens the family, and the father kills Nag with a shotgun blast while Rikki bites down on the hood of the struggling cobra.
  • Rising Action
  • Nagaina was furoius that Rikki-tikki assassinated Nag. Now, Rikki had to kill Nagaina because he knew the female cobra wanted revenge. First, he had to kill her eggs that hadn´t hatched yet, since there would have been more snakes to help Nagaina if her babies hatched.
  • Climax
  • Rikki-tikki-tavi chases Nagaina down her hole and doesn´t come back up for a while thus, eveyone gets worried that she killed the valiant mongoose.
  • Falling Action
  • In the end, Rikki-tikki saves everyone by killing Nagaina when he emerges from the den and announces the death of the snake and the destruction of her eggs.
