This was widely accepted with a few people disagreeing but put it off for the time being
The Missouri compromise added missouri as a slave state and maine as a free state
They also drew a line at 36 '30 latitude where slavery is admitted below and not above
The south widely liked the law but the north was very angry and this is when a lot of people became abolitionist

The Compromise of 1850 Was a horror in many peoples eyes It started out with admitting california as a free state, tipping the balance of power and voiding the missouri compromise line
Then It drew lines int he area gained from mexico and let them decide if they want slavery or not
And the horror part was the fugitive slave law act. This basically made it to where any free or escaped black man could be caught in the north and returned to slavery.
The Kansas-Nebraska act would be the one that eventually started the war. All it was, was that Kansas and Nebraska would be admitted to the union and would be allowed to choose whether or not they want slavery
Both sides wanting more power some people rushed to kansas to try and make kansas one or the other with slavery. It got so heated it turned into marauders.
This was called Bleeding kansas and was what started the baises to the civil war
