Well, I remember someone saying that they started in St. Louis a few days before my husband, and I joined them. So, I don’t know how many times they stopped before that. I think we stopped over 70 times.
Do you remember how many stops you guys had to make for resupplies?
There was many cold nights and some mornings we would wake up to supper heavy dew and sometimes in the middle of the day we would feel a strong gust of wind out the middle of the blue. I do not think that anything serous very came after them. Mosted days were fair weather and sometimes it was a little cloudy. We also hit some snow in the beginning, there was also some cases of rain and hail.
Did you guys run into any storms or intense winds that might have affected the trip?
There were a few deaths I think that most of them were Indian deaths. I only remember one death within the group and that was in the beginning we do not know how he died but we just found him dead when we woke up, I think his name was Floyd, ya that was it Charles Floyd. I know for a fact there were many injuries and I remember getting sick and had to rest for a few days
Do you know if there were some major injuries or deaths?
During the winter there was many fights between travelers but nothing to serious came out of them. We did have many incidences with Indians that caused a few deaths.
Tell me was there any fights that you guys encountered on your trip?
I don’t think we did, if we did, we probably just shot something to eat.
Did you guys every run out of food at any point?
I was chosen I did not have a chose I was chosen by the chief of my tribe (also my father) to go with them to help them get through the rough terrain better.
What was the reason that you even want on the trip, was there something that you were going to get after the trip?
